Europe Energy Week | June 15 - 17, 2021
Shaping the Energy of Tomorrow
Europe Energy Week is a three-day virtual conference that will take place from June 15-17, 2021, to tackle the tough challenges the entire energy industry is facing today. How can we meet the growing demand for electricity and protect our climate at the same time? How can we build new energy systems across the globe and combat climate change by making sustainable, reliable, and affordable energy possible? What is Europe’s role in this transformation?
During the three-day session, we will discuss the regional challenges and opportunities facing the energy sector in this journey of evolution and transformation towards decarbonized energy systems.
The conference will feature insightful panel sessions for the future of the energy industry. It will also connect global energy businesses, market leaders, policy makers and government representatives, to structure new energy business models, to devise strategies, and to energize societies as we forge ahead on this exciting journey.
We look forward to hosting your participation and facilitating the conversation on our journey to a carbon-neutral world together. See you at the conference! |

KEYNOTE PANEL: How can Europe become the frontrunner in decarbonized energy?
The EU has committed to becoming the first climate-neutral continent by 2050. The transition to a zero-emission Europe will require significant investments, research and innovation, including new ways of producing and consuming energy. What is the role of businesses to support the green transition? How can policy makers foster private sector innovation and investment? Is Europe jointly taking the right steps at the needed pace, in order to become the front runner in decarbonized energy? This session will look at geopolitics, interdependencies, and relevant questions that lie at the core of a successful energy transformation.

INNOVATION
09.00 – 10.10 CEST
Holistic Cybersecurity and trusted partnership in an increasingly digital world
The energy landscape is becoming more digital and hackers more sophisticated. This session will look at how we strive to keep our energy system cyber secure in an ever-changing regulatory environment, and why an effective cyber protection does not stop short at national borders and is built on trust and collaboration throughout the supply chain.
Confirmed Speakers:
Judith Wunschik, Chief Cybersecurity Officer and Global Head of Cybersecurity, Siemens Energy
Luigi Rebuffi, Secretary-General, European Cyber Security Organisation
Despina Spanou, Head of the Cabinet of the VP of the European Commission, EU Commission

Jan Feller, CEO, AHK Finland
11.15 – 12.10 CEST
How to build enough wind power to fuel the energy transition
Onshore and offshore wind will play a vital role in the decarbonization of our energy system. The targets set by the European Green Deal are extremely ambitious, but sticking to our current pace of installations will not get us there. This session will explore how the hurdles found within both market segments need to be addressed – and solved – to reach the estimated 700 GW of onshore capacity and 300 GW of offshore capacity by 2050, which are required.
Confirmed Speakers:
Andreas Nauen, CEO, SGRE
Stephen Dunne, Editor in Chief, reNEWS
Anja-Isabel Dotzenrath, CEO, RWE Renewables
Bruno Bensasson, Chairman and Chief Executive, EDF Renewables
14.00 – 15.10 CEST
Driving sector coupling: The hydrogen economy starts today!
Green hydrogen will play an important role in decarbonization for transport and industry. This session will explore how the public and private sector can work together to enable the large-scale industrialization of hydrogen, in the transport sector.
Confirmed Speakers:
Prof. Dr. Armin Schnettler, VP New Energy Business, Siemens Energy
Dr. Michael Steiner, CTO, Porsche
Clara Bowman, CEO, AME
Annette Mann, Head of Corporate Responsibility, Lufthansa Group

INNOVATION TALK: The power of Artificial Intelligence
What is the role that artificial intelligence (AI) could play, and is playing, to combat global climate change? AI is currently posing challenges, due to its contribution to climate change of the greenhouse gases emitted by training data and computation-intensive AI systems. However, there are two crucial opportunities that AI offers in this domain: it can help improve and expand current understanding of climate change and it contribute to combatting the climate crisis effectively.
Arun Subramaniyan, Lead of High Performance Computing and Machine Learning Solutions, Amazon Web Services (AWS)
